Don Don Donki opens last December in Singapore downtown Orchard Central mall. Donki (as we call it by short) is a popular Japanese discount store by Don Quijote. It opens 24 hours and occupies 2 floors in the basement of the mall.
Basement 1 of the store is stocked with a variety of Japanese products from food, beauty to lifestyle items. It has that everything-under-one-roof concept.
Basement 2 is where its supermarket and Hokkaido Marche Gourmet Hall (aka food court) are located. The gourmet hall combines 7 different Japanese F&B brands from Hokkaido serving a range of Japanese dishes including ramen, yakitori, curry rice and sushi – all mainly run by Japanese chef.
One thing to be prepared when you shop at donki is the non-stop, repeating play of their song – it is quite catchy but after a while, it can start to drive you donki nut @_@.
We had our cravings satisfied at lunch too – Ramen, Gyoza, Katsu Curry and Yakitori Grilled Skewer! The White Miso ramen from the Ajisai Noodle stall was alright (didn’t wow me yet) but they have several types of ramen and side dishes to choose which I can try next time. As for the Katsu Curry from the Donburi Maruya stall, it is one of the best we have tried so far in Singapore. The yakitori skewers from Yakitori Tsuyoshi stall were very nice too especially with beer!
- Take MRT (aka subway) to Somerset Station and walk up to Orchard Central mall where Donki is located in basement 1 and 2.
- Check out Donki website for online ordering and find out what they offer before heading down.
- Find out more about the gourmet hall at the Hokkaido Marche website.
